   SCULPTURE AND PALIMPSEST*
   
   History is like a big curators project. And art is like a motley
   palimpsest, a parchment with many layers. We could not write anything unless we could overwrite something. Any kind of cultural act is writing between the lines, above the lines or away from them.
   
   Palimpsest simultaneously denies but also renews the past. It can happen that the material, vehicle for ideas becomes more valuable than the thought itself. The empty shell without the idea is still a recognizable sign that can be used for constructing new ideas and meanings.
   
   Present exhibition speaks about sculpture as a manuscript or a sign system. How much is it based on the legends that surround it and how people perceive sculpture without any accompanying texts. We examine context as an important modeler in sculpture and the change in sculptures meaning in the
   course of history.
   
   Political sculpture is used as a manuscript, where former text can be scraped off to be replaced by new messages. The aim of this exhibition is to improve viewers ability to read the sculptures language critically, to view it in its historical context and to find ways for replacing sculptures monumentality with plasticity.

   No 7. maija klubā NABAKLAB būs apskatāms Latvijas un Igaunijas jauno mākslinieku projekts – izstāde ”Skulptūra un Palimpsests”, kuras mērķis ir uzlabot skatītāju spēju lasīt tēlniecības valodā, skatot skulptūru tās vēsturiskajā kontekstā, kā arī aizvietojot monumentālo uztveri ar plastiskumu. 
   
   Izstādē piedalās mākslinieki Raitis Stiuka, Egons Peršēvics, Berit Talsepp, Jaanus Samma, Rene Reinumäe, Andrus Lauringson, Maigi Magnus, Art Allmägi, Taivo Timmusk, Yang Li, Karin Link, Arrowgroup (Villem Jahu, Triinu Jürves), Eike Eplik

   
   
   Pētot kontekstu kā būtisku skulptūras veidotāju, tiek pārbaudīts, kā leģendas maina skatītāja uztveri un attieksmi pret tēlniecību bez pavadošas informācijas.
   
   Palimpsests vienlaicīgi noliedz un atjauno pagātni. Materiāla un idejas pozicionēšana var būt vērtīgāka kā pamatdoma. Tukša čaula bez pamatojuma kļūst par atpazīstamu zīmolu, un kalpo par pamatu jaunām idejām un nozīmēm.
